Terms and Conditions

Covid-19
We reserve the right to deny accommodation to any guests that are showing signs or symptoms of Covid-19 including but not limited to consistent cough, temperature, shortness of breath etc.  If accommodation is refused Highgate House the guests will be required to leave immediately and Highgate House will provide a refund of the amount of the remaining stay less 10% administration fee. It is the owners of Highgate House's decision on entry for guests and any decision made by the owners is final.  If guests er refused accommodation Highgate House do not accept any responsibility for finding alternative accommodation.  All guests must comply with social distancing rules keeping at least two metres distance between people outside of a family unit.  
​Also, everyone must:
  • Sanitise hands on entering or leaving the house.
  • Keep at least 2m (6 foot apart) in public areas (hallway, stairs, and landing) and must hold any longer conversations outside.
  • If requested, guests must wear face masks in the public areas (hallway, stairs, and landing)  of the house.
  • Give way to anyone going up the stairs.
  • Wash hands regularly.
  • Comply with Covid-19 measures around Whitby town (such as one-way systems) and within cafes, restaurants, bars, and pubs and respect for others space and safety. 
  • Advise the owners immediately if feeling unwell, experiencing the following symptoms: including but not limited to continuous  cough, temperature, shortness of breath. In which case the guest, or guests will be required to also immediately contact the health authorities and return home. 
  • If any guest refuses to comply with any of these terms and conditions the owners of Highgate House reserve the right to remove the accommodation and require the guests to leave immediately.  If accommodation is withdrawn Highgate House the guests will be required to leave immediately and Highgate House will provide a refund of the amount of the remaining stay less 10% administration fee.

Payment Details
For all bookings we require credit/debit card details to guarantee payment and if booked within 14 days of your stay the whole of your reservation fee is immediately charged to your card.  We reserve the right to charge for the whole of your stay at any point after your booking. This does not affect your right to a refund if you cancel before the 14 day no cancellation period.  Additionally, we reserve the right to take up to 50% in a non-refundable deposit payable at the time of booking for any bookings of more than two rooms and or more than four nights and or for Goth Weekends, Whitby Regatta or New Year.  We will send you an email or letter confirming the booking. We accept a range of payment cards, but we are unable to accept online payment methods such as PayPal, or Diners Club cards. Prices are per room per night and include breakfast (full English breakfast at weekends and continental breakfast week days, unless you have booked a Room Only rate, in which case there are no meals provided) and all taxes.

Cancellation
In the unlikely event of your booking being cancelled or curtailed, we are entitled by law to charge for booked accommodation not taken up. If cancellation occurs within 14  days of arrival a cancellation fee of 100% of the booking fee will be charged against the card details provided. We also reserve the right to charge up to a 50% non-returnable deposit payable at the time of booking for any bookings of two or more rooms and or more than four nights and or for Goth Weekends, Whitby Regatta and New Year. To avoid misunderstanding, we recommend all our guests to insure against cancellation.  Covid-19 amendment: For bookings made after 1st August 2020 and until further notice the free cancellation period has been extended  to 14 days, which allows guests to amend or cancel their booking up to 14 days before their stay and receive a refund.

Non-availability
We would only cancel your booking if your accommodation was unavailable for reasons beyond our control. We would attempt to offer you alternative accommodation, however if this was not possible, or unacceptable to you, then we would refund all monies paid by you. Our liability would not extend beyond this refund.

Transfer of Booking
Your booking is not transferable.  You cannot transfer or resell your booking (in whole or in part) or advertise or otherwise offer any room for sale and if you do transfer or resell (or attempt to transfer or resell) your booking then we may terminate your booking and retain any money paid to us for the booking.  Any bookings resold or transferred may not be honoured and we accept no liability in respect of this.  We may also refuse to take any future bookings from you. If we have agreed (in exceptional circumstances) to allow a transfer of your booking (to a family member or close friend for example), then you continue to be responsible for the booking, the behaviour and conduct of the replacement guests (you will be responsible for ensuring that they comply with the Terms And Conditions detailed on this web site) and any additional charges incurred such as extras or damages, which will if required, be charged to the card you used to create the original booking.

Refunds
If a refund is agreed we reserve the right to charge an administration of up to 10% of the booking fee.

Arrival & Departure
Your room is available to for you to check in from 4:00PM up to 7:00PM on the day of arrival, unless otherwise arranged. Check out is from 7:30AM and no later than 10:00AM on the day of departure, unless otherwise arranged. Your bill for the accommodation and any extras or services taken during your stay is payable upon booking and any extras are payable on departure. We are entitled to request proof of identification (acceptable ID documents are: a photo ID card, passport, divers licence and or the card used to make the booking) and we reserve the right to refuse access to your accommodation or withdraw your accommodation and require you to leave immediately and without notice or a refund if either you refuse to provide sufficient identification.

Late Check Out
As turnaround times are very tight we reserve the right to charge for late check out,  IE after 10:00AM on the day of departure, at the rate of £35 per hour or part thereof.

Damages and Breakages
You are responsible and liable for any breakages or damages which you or any member of your party cause to the accommodation or its contents. Please report these as soon as they occur. We do not normally charge for minor breakages, but we reserve the right to make a charge to the guest's credit/ debit card, or we may send you an invoice, for repair or making good if the damage or breakage is significant. We may make an additional charge if you did not report this.

Behaviour
We reserve the right to refuse access to your accommodation or withdraw your accommodation and require you to leave immediately and without notice or a refund if in our reasonable opinion you or a member of your party are disturbing other guests peaceful stay, are abusive, aggressive or excessively intoxicated with alcohol or under the influence of drugs or engaged in any form of illegal or immoral behaviour.

Dietary Requirements
We can cater for vegetarian or vegan diets, but unfortunately cannot cater for life-threatening nut or food allergy.

Liability
We do not accept liability for damage, loss or injury to any member of your party or any vehicles or possessions, unless proven to be caused by a negligent act by ourselves or our employees or contractors whilst acting in the course of employment.

Children
As Highgate House is adults only, unfortunately we don't accept children under the age of 18 and in no case will any room accommodate more than two people. We reserve the right to refuse access to your accommodation or withdraw your accommodation and require you to leave immediately and without notice or a refund if either you provide ID that confirms you are under 18 years of age, or when asked to provide ID you refuse.

Groups
We do not normally accept groups so please check with us before you book for parties of four people or more. In consideration of our other guests we are unable to accommodate Stag and Hen parties.

Pets
Unfortunately we don't accept pets.
