From the south:
Take the A1 north then A64 signposted York, follow signs to Scarborough keep going past York and on towards Malton then turn left onto A169 near Malton - signposted Whitby. Follow the A169 straight ahead through Pickering and across the moors. After passing through Sleights and as you get closer to Whitby you will need to turn right at the roundabout onto A171 signposted Whitby & Scarborough, |
From the North:
Take J59 from A1 Southbound bear left onto the A167. Turn left onto A1150, which becomes A66. Stay on A66 to Middlesbrough and watch out for Whitby sign posts onto A1043. Follow signs and bear left onto A171 then continue on A171 to Whitby. |
When you arrive into Whitby
When you get to the outskirts of the town you will encounter a roundabout with the Whitby Park and ride - bear left at this roundabout (don't go into the park and ride) onto B1460 Stakesby Road. Keep going past the Spar Garage on your left and the Lidl on your right. You will eventually come to a roundabout with a high wall with a petrol station (Harrisons) on your left - take the second exit into Back St Hilda's Terrace. Proceed towards the end and the pay and display car park is on your left. Park up and walk left out of the car park, over the road, right onto Skinner Street and right again onto St Hilda's Terrace and Highgate House's entrance is on your right. Exit the station and turn left onto Baggdale Road (heading away from the harbour) on past Boyes. Turn right at Lucky House (Chinese restaurant) into Brunswick Street and follow this road around and up the hill. Turn left onto Flowergate at the Little Angel Pub. Highgate House is 200 Yards on your right just past the old church opposite the Resolution Hotel.
By Bus
You can reach Whitby by bus via Scarborough, Leeds, York and Newcastle. Exit the bus station and turn left onto Baggdale Road (heading away from the harbour) on past Boyes. Turn right at Lucky House (Chinese restaurant) into Brunswick Street and follow this road around and up the hill. Turn left onto Flowergate at the Little Angel Pub. Highgate House is 200 Yards on your right just past the old church opposite the Resolution Hotel.
