The former captain’s residence and once upon a time rectory, epitomises all that is expected of a Georgian property, and certainly does not fail to impress with its grandeur. This beautiful Georgian house has been cared for and comfortably decorated by the hosts, who have very good taste. The property is situated within easy walking distance to Whitby, so a good base to explore from. We visited Highgate Hotel to celebrate my 21st birthday which made it a birthday I’ll never forget. We stayed in the lovely Spring room which was so beautifully decorated. We was greeted with champagne which I think was such a lovely touch! As the house is a Bed and Breakfast we was woken up both mornings to a breakfast platter which I only can describe as brilliant. Absolutely fantastic! We stayed here recently for a few days in July. We would not hesitate to recommend. Louise and Jonathan were lovely, very thoughtful hosts who really try to understand their guest’s needs and accommodate accordingly. Breakfasts served in the room are fresh, plentiful and delicious, taking account of any dietary requirements. The accommodation was luxurious: a living/reception room, a bedroom and a bathroom; all of these very spacious and all beautifully furnished in keeping with the history of the place. What a beautiful guesthouse! From the minute we got there, till the minute we left we were looked after superbly by Jonathon and Louise . The room/house was impeccable, from the design and styling, to the spotless cleanliness, and the array of little extras like teas, coffees, biscuits and real milk (not UHT). The location of Highgate House was perfect. Very close to the centre of Whitby in an elegant terrace. We received a very warm welcome and help with information to make our stay memorable. The bedroom was large comfortable and spotless. The breakfasts delicious and generous. The area was quiet at night. Whitby and the rest of North Yorkshire is beautiful.

The property is beautiful as was my room. The decor and furnishings were very tasteful and everything was crisp and clean. The breakfast tray was a tasty delight every morning delivered by the ever cheerful and charming hosts. Highgate House is really well situated….an all round delight.

The room was huge, the location is excellent, high level of comfort with breakfast delivered to our lounge room. Very friendly, helpful hosts. The bed is very comfortable – like sleeping on a cloud.

This luxury B&B was a great find, made even better by the attention to detail provided by the superb hosts Louise & Jonathan. Our room was spacious and well presented in every way.
